Good afternoon,
If anyone in the college has a need for hi-speed data transfer rates for a large collection research data either within the college or even outside of campus, please let me know. A faculty member in the College of Technology has an NSF grant to upgrade science data transfer networking capabilities in the campus, and she had identified our college as one of the recipients for the grant (http://www.uh.edu/technology/news-events/stories/2013/september/092613-deniz-gurkan.php).
Research groups that will qualify will be the ones who need to transfer GBs or TBs of data on a regular basis to/from their labs to their servers/clusters on/off-campus to external collaboration and HPC sites (e.g. transport large data sets to/from TACC in Austin).
This is a great opportunity for our college since the grant will fund the costly network hardware that will lay the foundation and facilitate the much-needed hi-speed transfer rates for research groups in our college. University IT is also working on this to facilitate the installation of such hardware in respective areas. The hi-speed network installation will be performed on an as-needed basis only for approved areas and will not cover the whole college.
Please respond by Wednesday, Aril 23rd if interested. Please include in your responses:
1. One sentence on what your research area is.
2. Another sentence on maximum size data transfers you may experience during the course of your research.
Thanks,
Kiet Luong
