[CCoE Notice] FW: ELECTRICAL OUTAGE NOTIFICATION - BUILDINGS 503, 549, 579, 580 & 581 - 07.21.13

Attached is the official notification about the power outage this weekend.

All exhausts and equipment, including fume hoods, will shut down, except those on emergency backup.  All experiments and operations need to be shut down and/or stopped, and the sash closed.  If for some reason, the equipment does not start back up properly, the consequences could be serious.  If the equipment is not on emergency backup from a generator, it would be a good idea to turn it off and turn it back on after power is restored. Someone should be available from your department to verify that the equipment is operating normally. Facilities people expect to be stretched thin afterwards.

Please take note of the importance of proper shut down and start up.  Please be sure that all equipment and machinery, including fume hoods, lab equipment, computers, etc. are properly shut down before leaving this weekend.  If anyone foresees a problem, please discuss with your lab and support people, or call me, so that we can try to work something out.

If there is any critical equipment, such as freezers, that cannot be shut down, please contact me immediately. We are already making provisions for temporary power to selected equipment during the shutdown.
