CCE Faculty:

Effective immediately, you may now charge Graduate Tuition ($410 per SCH)
to your grants. Therefore, you may now voluntarily create budgets with
this associated expense.

Specific Points:

- Budget Category: If Tuition is an allowable cost by the
Sponsor, please include in the Budget Category --- Other Direct Costs.

- Indirect Costs: No IDC is charged on Tuition.

- Budget Template: On the current UH DOR FY13 Budget Template, if
you do not have Equipment, you can change the Equipment "category heading"
to Tuition. Equipment is exempted from IDC on the current Template so the
formulas will work. If you have both Equipment and Tuition, please contact
Gerri, Rudy, or Winsome for assistance.

If you have a current award and want to re-budget funds for tuition, please
consult your Department DBA and Judy Morris to ensure compliance and
applicability.

I will be happy to answer questions.

As a reminder, please re-familiarize yourself with our Pre-Award
submission process:

*Cullen College of Engineering
Pre-Award Grant Submission Process *

1. When considering a submission of a grant/contract proposal, the PI
will notify the appropriate Research Administrator (RA) four weeks in
advance, if possible.

2. When constructing the UH “transmittal,” if the administering unit
for the grant reports to the Dean of Engineering, RAs Hamlett and/or Razo
will assist with the proposal submission (pre-award).

3. When seeking a cost-share (mandatory or voluntary) and/or IDC
reduction (sponsored mandated and/or voluntary), the request should be
channeled through the appropriate Department Chair. At least two weeks
must be allowed for cost share and reduced IDC issues to be resolved and
documented.

4. * **A current UH Conflict of Interest Form must be on file (for PIs
and co-PIs) before UH will submit a grant/contract proposal to an external
sponsor.*
