Advisory Committee Members,

As you may be aware from previous correspondence from the Board, the 83rd Texas Legislature (2013 session) made a change to the Texas Engineering Practice Act that requires a one-time Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) for all renewals of Active PE licenses after January 1, 2014. We have been working hard to implement the recent legislative requirement and we have begun the process for all Active PEs. As a member of one of the TBPE Advisory Committees, you probably work with one or more PEs that will need to have a CHRC prior to their license renewal and we wanted to make sure you and your staff are aware of the requirements. Notices regarding the CHRC will be sent directly to each licensee. However, in your capacity as an Advisory Committee member, we wanted to share the information with you as well.

The CHRC is a one-time process that will need to be completed in advance of each licensee's renewal date. We want to start this process now so that it isn't an issue by the time of renewal. There is a one-time associated fee of $41.45 that each applicant will pay for fingerprint processing. Instructions, links, and a FAQ are available on our website's Criminal History Record Check page:http://engineers.texas.gov/recordcheck.

In addition, the state vendor for the CHRC, MorphoTrust, offers a service for on-site fingerprinting if the group size meets the criteria. The file attached provides contact information and criteria. On-site fingerprinting does not affect the registration requirement or the associated cost.

Just for your information, the ORI (agency number) is unique to each agency requiring a criminal history records check. The ORI for the Texas Board of Professional Engineers is TX923654Z.
