I would like to extend a personal invitation to your faculty, and your
students to attend the <http://healthinnov.embs.org/2012conf/> 2012 IEEE
Health Innovation Conference, to be held in the Texas Medical Center on
November 7-9. The conference is co-sponsored by IEEE Engineering in Medicine
and Biology (EMB) Society and The Methodist Hospital Research Institute, and
is devoted to the exploration of the intersection of engineering, medicine,
and health.

Emphasis will be placed on novel innovations that have a foreseeable impact
on human health and disease. We invite participation by physicians, nurses
and other healthcare professionals, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs,
industrial leaders, government agencies and policy makers.

The conference theme is Translational Engineering in Health & Medicine: the
intersection of the lab, the clinic and the community, and some of the
tracks will be:

. Imaging

. Nano Medicine

. Data Mining

. Applied Metabolomics

. Global Health

. Aerospace

. Ideation and Commercialization

. Harsh Environments

Our keynote and plenary speakers include:

.  Dr. Roderic Pettigrew of the NIH;

. Dr. Matt O'Donnell, Frank & Julie Jungers Dean of Engineering, College of
Engineering, University of Washington;

. Dr. Albert J. Sinusas, Professor of Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology at
Yale University, Director of Cardiovascular Imaging at Yale New Haven
Hospital, Director of the Yale Translational Research Imaging Center; and

. Rick Valencia, Vice-President for Wireless Health & General Manager of
Qualcomm Life, Qualcomm Tricorder X Prize

In addition, the conference will feature:

. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience an
<http://healthinnov.embs.org/2012conf/commercializing-med-tech/> IDEO design
workshop,

. An elevator pitch competition judged by venture capitalists

. A global health forum

. A commercialization forum

Papers
We are providing Texas residents with an extended deadline for submitting
abstracts to the conference. Accepted papers may also be considered for
publication in The IEEE Journal on Translational Engineering in Health &
Medicine (to be launched in March 2013). To take advantage of the
Texas-resident extended deadline, send an email to:
<mailto:kmcarthur at tmhs.org> kmcarthur at tmhs.org.

Student Discounts

Texas students are also eligible for a limited number of student
scholarships for free or reduced registration. Interested students should
send an email to Kara McArthur, <mailto:kmcarthur at tmhs.org>
kmcarthur at tmhs.org.

I believe Texas is at the forefront of innovation in healthcare engineering,
and I would really like to showcase our talent and work.

Sincerely,
