[CCoE Notice] The College's ad hoc "courses" website

To: All College of Engineering faculty

For many years, the College has provided an ad hoc website,
<http://www.egr.uh.edu/courses>, in which faculty can place materials for
access by the students in their classes. This service is Windows-based,
which makes access very simple, but provides no control of web access to
the content.

When the new main College website becomes operational next Friday, the
content of the /courses part of the website will not be migrated to the
new server, which is based on Linux. Rather, the base URL for the legacy
website will change from http://www.egr.uh.edu/courses to
http://www0.egr.uh.edu/courses. The new website has been configured to
automatically redirect all browser queries to
http://www.egr.uh.edu/courses to the legacy server, so that any
documentation based on our legacy configuration will continue to be valid.

We believe that this process should be transparent to our user community.
However, experience has taught us that there will always be unanticipated
consequences, so I want to make sure that all faculty currently using the
/courses section of our main website are aware of this change, and can let
us know of any concerns or questions before the November 9 changeover.

You can contact us at websupport at egr.uh.edu, or by contacting me directly.

Best regards,

John Young
