For immediate distribution –
June 13, 2012 – We are experiencing issues with one of the two university transformers and as a result Cougar 3 Feeder is down. All facilities were switched back yesterday from Cougar 3 to Cougar 2 and the general campus power has not been impacted at this time.
However, we have temporarily placed the Central Plant on the campus power feeder (Cougar 2) and the interim impact will be reduced cooling capacity. Campus buildings may experience a rise in environmental temperatures during this interim period.
Facilities Management is working diligently with CenterPoint to diagnose and repair the transformer at the ERP Substation. As soon as the repairs have been completed, the Central Plant will be transferred back to Cougar 3 and environmental conditions will improve.
We are currently balancing the campus load on the remaining transformer without issue but we are watching the loads of the transformer carefully. If power shedding is required we will follow the UH Main Campus Emergency Power Building Priority list.
If you experience any power issues during this time please contact the Facilities Service Center at 713-743-4948.
Thank you.
