University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering
Dear CCE Faculty and Staff,
On Monday, we will be hosting a memorial event to pay tribute to Neal
Amundson, Cullen Professor Emeritus of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
and Professor of Mathematics, who passed away at the age of 95 just over two
weeks ago. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the
National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences, Neal
is considered the father of modern chemical engineering and a leading
educator in the field. While he could have gone anywhere in the nation, he
chose to come to UH after a distinguished career at the University of
Minnesota and subsequently played a significant role in bringing our
chemical engineering program into national prominence.
Engineers and scientists from around the country will be here on Monday to
participate in the event and share their personal tributes to Neal. I
encourage our entire Cullen Community to attend all or part of the event,
scheduled for Monday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in L2-D2
Engineering Lecture Hall.
It is important that we remember and honor pioneers and champions for
engineering education, the engineering profession and the UH Cullen College
of Engineering. I sincerely hope you will be able to attend.
Warm regards,
tedescosignature
Dean Joseph W. Tedesco
