To our Engineering Faculty, Staff, and Students
For many years, the Alumni Association (along with HEB, Coca Cola and several other sponsors) organized a school supply collection drive for children who couldn't afford their own. Last year's drive collected $150,000 worth of supplies that were distributed to 132,000 students in 330 schools in 31 school districts! Unfortunately, this collaboration is no more. In order to fill some of the gap, Dr. Simon Bott's summer class has volunteered to replace this effort with their own drive. The students will sort, box, and deliver the supplies to schools in low-income areas of the city.
I hope you can contribute. Our Engineering collection box is located here in the Engineering Dean's Office (E421 Engineering Building 2), with pick-up by Dr. Bott's students on Thursday/Friday, August 11 and 12.
Many different stores are currently selling school supplies (some very cheaply) - so a $20 contribution of supplies can go a long way. ANY school supplies are great - over 50 schools in different school districts are participating; so distinctions between types of notes books, etc., is irrelevant. A general list follows below.
