Dear Cullen College Faculty and Staff,

Congratulations on wrapping another semester at the Cullen College!

On Saturday, some 147 undergraduates, 97 masters and 18 doctoral
students graduated from our college, joining close to 16,000 other
Cougar engineering alumni. One of those, Mr. John Berry Rogers, a 1950
graduate from mechanical engineering, walked during the ceremony. He
never had the opportunity to participate in graduation due to military
service, but he was finally able to do so 60 years after graduating. We
are very proud of Mr. Rogers and all of our graduates for their many
accomplishments.

Below are a few additional announcements that I would like to share with
you about recent activities and upcoming events.

ABET Mock Visit: The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology
visited the college May 2-3 as part of a mock exercise for our upcoming
accreditation process. The evaluators gave us useful feedback and
insights that we will use in preparing for our ABET site visit in
September 2011. We will use this feedback to ensure that we have no
negative findings during our accreditation exit interview next year.

Executive Retreat: At the upcoming executive retreat, we will be working
on strategic initiatives involving engineering facilities, enrollment,
faculty workload and revenue generating programs. All of these
initiatives are critical to our Tier One goals.

Alumni Awards Gala: The Cullen College of Engineering Alumni Awards Gala
will be held June 4, 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel downtown. Several
college alumni will be honored for their contributions to the
engineering profession. Dr. Leang Shieh, in electrical and computer
engineering, will be receiving the Abraham E. Dukler Distinguished
Faculty Award. If you are interested in attending the gala, please visit
www.egr.uh.edu/alumni/awards/
> to RSVP.

Industry Day: The UH Center for Emerging Technologies in Geosensing and
Remote Sensing is hosting an Industry Day June 14. If you are interested
in sensing research and would like to attend this event, please contact
Lisa Robertson <mailto:lcrobertson at uh.edu> .

Entrepreneur Boot Camp: Julie Goonewardene and Jeff Warren from Purdue
University will be at UH to lead Entrepreneur Boot Camp, a program
designed to train faculty, staff and graduate students in
entrepreneurship and commercialization. The event will be held on Sept.
21. For more information, please contact Lisa Robertson

Thank you, once again, for your continued support and dedication.

Warm regards,

Joe Tedesco
