Dear Colleagues of CCOE,

The report of "Study of High Risk Courses by Faculty Senate" generated some
discussion about the undergraduate admission standards and the need to have
these high rates of DWIF grades to insure the quality of our students.

As you might have read in the President's March Report, she outlined the
nine-point plan to bring our 6-year graduation rate from 42% to the
expected graduation rate of 55% at our peer universities. The top three on
the list are
1. Offer an exceptional living/learning experience for our students the
goal is to have 25% of students live on campus.
2. Offer exciting and relevant educational programs that expose students to
three unique experiences - global, research, and service-learning.
Realign admission standards to ensure that entering students are
academically prepared to succeed.
As the result, Stephen Soutullo has been hired recently as the Associate
Vice President for Enrollment Services. The faculty senate will meet him in
the near future. If you have any suggestions or requests, please let Joe
Charlson, Shankar Chellam, Dimitri Litvinov, Richard Willson or me know.
Thank you.
