Dear All,

I hope that the New Year and the new semester have started well for you and that my email finds you in good health and with optimism for the future in this challenging period for humanity and our planet. Let's get inspired by positive examples and work hard to make the world a better place to live. Our Department is doing well, and we are growing in all academic and research performance metrics. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to excellence.

I would like to remind you that we are entering a busy seminar period that will involve two seminars per week for a few weeks (typically Mondays at 10am and Fridays at 10:30am, but always double check time and location!).

Your attendance at the seminars is very important. Seminars provide an opportunity to learn about cutting edge research in a variety of areas related to chemical and biomolecular engineering. But, most importantly, they have the ability to help you innovate in your own research project through cross-fertilization of ideas between seemingly distant research areas. I have many anecdotal stories to share about such discoveries, some from my own group and even from my own research when I was a graduate student and postdoc many years ago. Finally, attending the seminars and participating in the discussions create a positive impression about our Department to the visitors and boosts our reputation as a vibrant research-oriented Department throughout the research community.

Regarding seminar etiquette, I strongly encourage you to enter the room in a timely fashion and take your seats a few minutes before the designated time. This means that you may have to skip the refreshments and enjoy them after the seminar if you arrive just a few minutes before the starting time. So please arrive early to be able to enjoy the refreshments before the seminar. Starting on time allows us to keep the busy schedule of the visitors on time and make their visit more relaxed, productive, and enjoyable.

Thank you all for your attention to these matters.

Best regards,

Lakis

P.S. See you at the seminar on Monday at 10am in CEMO 105.
